Work around for annoying limits to reading online articles

By
Real Estate Agent with Progressive Realty (Boise Idaho) www.Progressive-Realty.info DB-17066

Since you are reading my blog online, I assume you also spend a lot of time reading other stories online as well.  Don't you get frustrated when you click on a link only to have a pop up indicating you have read your limit of free articles and must register?  For example, I was doing some research this morning and hit a roadblock after reading a few results on Glassdoor . . .

With Google Chrome, I just open a new "incognito window" and it doesn't recognize I have been there before so it let's me continue.  All you have to do is . . .

then you can just open a new "incognito page" that won't recognize the cookies stored on your device. . .

Then, it opens up a brand new window in "Incognito Mode" and magically, you don't have to sign up or register!

This hack works great for lots of websites that tease you with a limited number of "free" views before having to buy a subscription or register (for example:  newspaper and magazine sites).  You can also go into the browser settings and delete your cookies, but for me, this is easier and quicker.

Hope this helps!

I use Google's Pixel 4xl and I just go into a new "incognito tab" in chrome and it works on the phone in most cases.

Another hack for reading newspapers articles online is to log in through your local library website.  Great article.

Karen Climer Thanks for the input.  It is amazing the amount of data you get from a Library membership!  Magzines, DVD's of full seasons of your favorite tv shows or movie series, etc.

Thank you Jim!!!! It is so frustrating to run up against a brick wall when you've reached your limit. And I don't want to subscribe just to continue reading.

Kathy Streib I am so frustrated by all the push marketing that is happening in today's world.  If you don't log out of some of your social media accounts, they take the cookies and push so many ads (i.e. click on a cruise special and you get bombarded with ads from every cruise line for months).

Hi Jim Paulson - As stated above "Great tip!".  I have a VPN and sometimes you can fool websites so I rarely use the Incognito feature but I am going to be using it more now!  Your post makes a lot of sense.  In Safari, you can delete the cookies and history from just one website if you choose but obviously going incognito never stores those cookies. Thank you for reminding me.

What annoys me are the links to stories that allow you to read a paragraph or two, then you have to subscribe to read the rest. No thanks. I'm finally learning to recognize and avoid those links.

Marte Cliff wouldn't it be nice if we could just turn off all notifications from the websites that do that (i.e. my local paper)?

I guess it's kind of like the real estate sites where they give 3 free searches and then you need to sign up.  I can see both sides of this.  But, yes a good work around.

Oh Jim Paulson, my use of buried treasure was not intended to offend or think for once second you were dead and gone. Please forgive me for my wrong use of words that were really intended to compliment you as a treasure here on earth. I'm not familiar with Monte Python's. Again, my deepest apologies.

Patricia Feager, MBA, CRS, GRI,MRP you might think I am a bit morbid since I see you also posted on my Out of the Box marketing blog as well.  However, "buried" treasure?  I'm not dead yet . . . Monte Python's I'm Not Dead Yet sketch
