A survey asking for a few minutes of my time arrived in my email titled "CLIMATE EMERGENCY".
I decided to use a few minutes to find out what is the purpose of the "CEMWG" ??
Purpose: Submit a final report to the County Council, County Executive, City Mayor and Aldermen, and to the public including legislative, administrative, and community recommendations to assist the County and City with meeting the goals of this resolution; 1) implement policy and legislative actions through the lens of climate change; 2) reduce county- and city-wide greenhouse gas emissions 50% from 2010 levels by 2030 and 100% no later than 2050, and employ efforts to safely draw down carbon from the atmosphere, 12 months after the first meeting.
As I perused the survey, I realized the questions being asked were essentially a one way street. If I decided to check a box on any of the questions I am saying YES, and providing the answers the group is seeking.
The following questions will assess what climate-related impacts the real estate industry has faced, including by agents, their companies, or other industry partners (e.g., appraisers, home inspectors, title companies, etc.) Please reflect on your observations over the past five years in the sections that follow.
As I researched understanding the "New Climate" the following terms and quotes came up. New Climate Economy, Climate War, "Serious threat to US National security interests and defense objectives", Global Tax, Societal transformation, "Fundamental transformation of the country", Existential threat. It is quite evident that the ambiguous science and Climate Emergency phrase is being used to achieve political goals.
While working with a couple relocating to the area from the mid west I asked how the sale of their current home was moving along? They told me they had accepted a contract , the home inspection was scheduled, but they were most concerned about the City inspection since their home was built in the 1920's. The City web site where they lived reads:
A Certificate of Occupancy is required whenever there is a change of ownership of a home or business or new residential construction. The City Inspector must complete an inspection of the property and all code violations must be corrected BEFORE a Certificate of Occupancy will be issued.
This survey is clear evidence that expanding the role of government until it has been involuntarily injected into our homes and businesses is the goal of the politicians who support the 2020 Climate Emergency Resolution.
Enacting legislation such as this would be devastating to the elderly, working class home owners and the business community.
Voters pay attention to whom you cast a ballot for this November!
