Reasons Why We Must Reconnect with Nature

In the age of relativity of truth, almost always, man inaugurates to pry through the chaos happening in the world. This attempt, which has provoked others to posit the absolute truth, has importantly engaged the people in his environment. Christianity, albeit criticized and challenged, has remained steadfast in its advocacy; to make a man truly “created in God’s image and invited to work the soil” and to “cultivate and care for the Garden of Eden in which He (God) has placed him (man). “To the first human couple, God entrusts the task of subduing the earth and exercising dominion over every living creature.  As Catholics, we are called to be ethically-eco-friendly individuals. This identity of ours is implicitly embodied only if we understand who we are as humans.

Reconnection means to connect again. This proposition proves the reality that humans are primarily integrated with Nature. Nature is the most excellent refuge for humans. It has its dear ways of serving humanity: shade, filtered air, materials and goods, peace, joy, and whatnot. The jocundity of every childhood experience owes its happy memories from Nature per se. The many things humans can do are only footnotes to Nature. It is a more significant part of human life.

Humans grow up in Nature. Everything humans experience relates to Nature. From the womb to the tomb, humans are one with Nature. Now, at what point do humans become unconnected to Nature?

Sin.

This is the only reason why humans are unconnected to Nature. Hence, reasons for reconnection are to know who humans are, rebuild and value the broken relationship, and live life meaningfully.

Everything is a grace to be shared. The sun shines not for itself. The flowers bloom not for themselves. The river flows not for itself. The trees bear fruit, not for themselves. The mountains and hills exist not for themselves. The animals live not for themselves alone. Humans, therefore, as one with Nature, must and should grow, mature, and live for others, emptying oneself for the service and benefits of others.
