ActiveRain is a site in transition.  If you've been here a while, then to some degree you're used to that.  We've had a few ownership changes over the years and sometimes the site has been less user friendly than we'd like.  Curtains dropping way too frequently and the ability to the daily basics was a crap shoot.

It wasn't unusual to wonder what the blogging window would be for the day.  Down most of the day, but back up at 10 p.m.?  Stand by and roll with it, or call it another day.  Different visions have come and gone, and with it iterations to how the platform was built and disassembled.  Change is the one constant (I know, a cliche, but accurate).

While we might not always exactly agree with the vision of the moment, or how it's executed, I'll give Ben and the Development Team this:  the  basics for the site for the majority of the last year have been very stable and most of the times when the raincoat Chihuahua shows up, it's not when I'm doing something essential.

If I want to blog, I can.

If I want to comment, I can.

If I want to ask a question, I can.

If I want to answer a question, I can.

If I want to write to be found by consumers, I can.

If I want to write to other Rainers, I can.

If I want to cruise the blog roll, there are now minimal repeat bloggers filling the blog roll.

If I want to have a spam free experience, for the most part it seems like the site gets thoroughly cleaned daily.

 

Sure, there are things that are not optimal right now (take your pick of comment notifications, formatting, group functions, SEO, etc.), but the things I find most valuable are stable. 

So while I may not get what I waaaaaant, I get what I neeeeeeeed!  (sung badly off key)

I'd love to have comment notifications back, but I can work around that.  I don't mind using work arounds if needed.  I haven't ever paid Ben a dime for using this platform, so for me it's pretty much all icing on the cake that we have the site at all.

Many years ago when I was working in telecommunications, I wanted to get access to be able to write my own Lotus Notes database. The IT guy was not going to allow me any access. I pled my case, and showed him a sample database I had already created. And his response was to quote the Rolling Stones lyrics above. Haha

Yes, I pretty much get what I need, too. We have to keep in perspective how much has changed for the better in recent months, and the kinds of problems that have been licked. And i bet the are plenty of other positive changes headed our way

In my life today I'm a once in a while visitor here.  BUT my phone still rings because of posts, I get the occassional referral and I certainly have dear dear friends I found among these pages.  I'm good with whatever happens as long as my phone is ringing because clients find my posts.

Cute! I haven't participated often, but had no trouble posting the last couple of times I wrote articles. I am pleased with how the post is formatted. I had no trouble saving to draft, but remembering gremlins from the past, I saved frequently. :)
