Minimum Wage Increase in Montgomery County on July 1st

Minimum wage will rise again in Montgomery County, Maryland on July 1, 2021 as part of a multi-year plan to get the minimum to $15 per hour countywide, a goal that the county is expected to reach next year.

Starting July 1, large employers will be required to pay all employees at least $15 per hour, medium employers will pay $14, and small employers will pay $13.50. "Large" employers have 51 or more employees, medium have between 11 and 50 employees generally, and small employers have under 10 or fewer employees. Gaithersburg Patch

Good mornig Roy. A real conundrum. The higher they take the minimum wage, the higher they take prices. And, somehow pricing wins. Enjoy your day.

It boggles my mind that the minimum wage has not at least kept up with the rate of inflation.  Everyone that is willing to work should be able to receive enough money for their work in order to pay for the basics in life.

Good morning, Roy. What Wayne Martin said. And besides increasing costs to consumers, I suspect employers will hire fewer people, as well.

Roy,

The minimum wage has been at $15 here.  Yesterday, we were at a regional mall, and there were signs in 80% of the places that they were hiring....A

I too have an issue with this.  Forcing minimum wage on employers is a sure way of people losing jobs.  Government should not mandate what a company should be paying their employees

I was in our local Walmart a few days ago, and found a desk not far from the front door.  It offered $17.00 an hour for stocking shelves, and even higher wages for other positions.
