Stand Tall and Pretty
We have a few Yucca plants in our yard, also known as soapweed or Adams needle. The flower stem can get quite tall and depending on the number of blossoms, rather heavy as well.
They have large leaves that look like swords and can get as high as 3 feet off the ground. As the flower begins to bloom, a larger stem sprouts from the core of the plant and eventually the blossoms form. They look like bells and have little fragrance.
We once had just a couple in the rear yard near a stand of rhododendrons, but over the years, the birds must have tried the seeds that form once the flower dies off and have left them in the front yard as well. The plant forms large seed pods that can quite a few seeds per pod.
We appreciate them for their unique shape and the birds they attract.
