RSS Feed and Windows Vista

RSS Reader Feeder I just found that the new Microsoft Windows Vista operating system has a built in RSS Feed reader, right on the desktop.

You can select any group from Activerain, click on the "RSS feed", subscribe, and the information from that group gets routed to your Windows Vista Reader.

Really cool, now only one click away from all the information you need, and everything you want to be kept up to date on. I know there are many different readers out on the web, this one is nice because it's right on the desktop of the computer. Literally 1 click away, running in a small window off to the side of your desktop.

Mine is setup to just show the titles. Here are some instructions for those of you who are new to the RSS feed concept, or you were just afraid to click on the icon (like I was).

Instructions:
Go to any group in the Activerain Network, (I'll promote ours as an example :-))

Step 1: Once you have selected a group, look to the right hand side of your screen for the RSS 2.0 icon:

Step 2: Next, click on the RSS feed icon:

Step 3: When the next screen comes up, just select Subscribe to this feed

That's it, 1,2,3 and your RSS feed brings you all the updates and posts from that group, or any other site that
supports RSS feeds. If you are not running Windows Vista, you can download many versions of free readers, I
just like the fact that it's right on the desktop where I can see what's going on minute by minute.

ActiveRain Blogs

You will see the RSS feed icon more and more on different websites. It's a great way to have information
funnelled right to you instead of having to go out, search the web, and get it. The nice feature in Windows Vista,
is that the reader display is an optional desktop icon. Now, right in front of me, all the Real Estate tech stuff,
networking groups, news and information, even stock quotes and tech tips/gadgets. If you are not using the
RSS feed, or just unsure of what it is, hopefully this post will help you.

It's ok to NOT click on things that you're not sure about, but this one, is a great little technology tool
that I'm sure you'll be seeing alot more of in the future!! It's safe, I love it!

I am really loving this new computer. It's so fast! I just picked up the HP m7760n 2 Dual Core Processor, with 500GB HD, 2GB RAM, the new Intel Viiv Technology, Lightscribe CD/DVD burner, Accelerator 950 graphics card, and Windows Vista. What more could a blogger ask for? It's nice to have a computer that once again, waits on me instead of the other way around. Been about 5 years since my last computer purchase! These new computers now days, have so much "NEW" technology, power, speed and capabilities, I'm glad I didn't just upgrade, I bought brand new! Laptop

Wow that is kinda cool. Right now I'm waiting to get Vista. Last time windows had an update we had so many problems with programs and accessing our MLS system. I'll let other try it and fix the bugs before I update, even though I really need a new computer that doesn't have the six key missing thanks to a 2 year old that thought it was pretty.

Hey Todd, do you think it was the kids that came up with the term "Any Key"? I have kids too, maybe just a new keyboard purchase would be best. I think it's ok to wait for the bugs to get worked out before upgrading. I'm one of those guys helping to work out the bugs as we speak. Windows Vista is great, but they are still working on patches and drivers to make it more compatible with various software and hardware. Hang in there, it's coming up to speed very soon.

I would give you my address to write but 19six38 sw sixtysixth looks funny. Thanks daughter..- LOL I have tried to find a new keyboard for my laptop and every-time I try they have sent me the wrong keyboard. I'm waiting for keyboard number 4 now. There apparently 5 different keyboards for my model of sony vaio.

I have been looking into the RSS for my website. Would like to know more about how exactly it works and how it affects the search engines when looking at your site.

Robert - I am not sure of all the details, but I know you can find out alot more about anything you want on AR. You can go to the "groups", you can do a "search" for blogs, you can even do your own post to find out everything you want to know about RSS feeds etc. Check it out, you'll love it!

I started using RSS recently and love it! I think it's the best thing since sliced bread.

Brad: On my way to try it out! Sounds exciting and I just got a new computer with Vista yesterday. Having a ball trying playing around with it so this post is very timely for me. Love the background you have with all the AR members pics! Very cool.
