HELP EMPTY CHARLOTTE'S SHELTERS

Help Empty Charlotte's SheltersThrough Sunday, July 11th it's the summer Empty the Shelters event sponsored by the Bissell Pet Foundation. Empty the Shelters is a nationwide pet adoption initiative whose purpose is to help reduce the number of animals in shelters and rescues through pet adoption, spay and neuter programs, microchipping, and emergency support.

To-date, Bissell Pet Foundation's effort have resulted in almost 54,000 adopted pets in 45 states and Canada. This summer there are some 186 participating shelters in 45 states offering reduced-fee adoptions of $25 or less.

Animal shelters typically become overcrowded in the summer months because of spring litters. The summer effort to empty the shelters is very important, as a result, to relieve the overcrowding.

Nina,

I have been meaning to visit our cat shelter to donate a bunch of towels.  Your post reminded me of that.  Good post to light a fire under those who are thinking of adopting.  A

Hi Nina Hollander, Broker, I found two puppies on a county road last week. I had to stop the traffic, chase them down, luckily, they didn't resist. I brought them home, gave them good baths, fed them and found the owners via social media. It just breaks my heart to see all these fur babies without permanent homes.

Such a great cause to make sure the fur babies waiting in a shelter are adopted.

Beth Atalay hi Beth... you are a hero in my book! Glad you found the owners... did they know their puppies had disappeared?

Nina Hollander, Broker, they certainly weren't looking for them. The owner said they can't keep them in the house, they find a way to run out. I don't know why these types of people get pets to begin with.

Beth Atalay that's ridiculous if you ask me, Beth. If those were children they'd be taken away from these people.

Rocky Dickerson hi Rocky... it breaks my heart to see so many beautiful animals waiting for a home, living in a cage... no matter how well they are treated. And the adult dogs and cats are always harder to adopt out. That's why when I've adopted I've always gone for an adult dog and cat.

Hi Nina- I wish more people cared for our furry friends as you do. It breaks my heart to see on Nextdoor the number of lost cats and dogs. And when I think of the pets in shelters in those cages...it's so important to give them a loving home.

Hi Nina Hollander, Broker

If my husband ever convinces me to get another kitty, we will adopt.  Fortunately, Sedona has a no-kill shelter. I used to volunteer there.

Thee shelters do a great job of finding homes for strays.  Up here in CT the shelters are empty and some enterprising people have been driving south to rescue them
