Leaky Toilet

As a real estate investor, my normal maintenance issue includes air conditioning and plumbing. In southeast Louisiana it is mainly air condition issue. On occasion plumbing issue do arise. When plumbing needs need addressing it usually involves the toilet. A license master plumber is about 100 - 150 per hour. I often find it cheaper to just change out the toilet with a Home Depot special toilet in a box for 79.99. For some quick tips on how to problem shoot a toilet go to This Old House website.

This is JUST what I needed today. I changed out the innards of a 10 year old toilet, and didn't it start leaking? I'm on my way to Home Depot! Thanks!

Great observation, Frank. When something breaks (i.e., a dryer) you should compare the cost and time of a service call and repair to just buying a used one that's advertised in the local paper or on Craig's List.

Sharon, Last night I get the call that a refiragotor is not cooling properly. I will purchase an apartment style Refiragotor and be done with the problem.

John, for $79 it is cheaper to go this route. the plumber is charging $100 to go and change the guts. Now the customer has a new toilet and is happy.

Mike, been there. Get the all in one it has everything.

Frank - You are correct. This is a very simple and inexpensive fix. It is also a good way to make a bathroom look updated.
