I was at the gas pumps yesterday and noticed several customers put $5-$10 in their tank and leave. I just stood there in awe.  At first I thought that was pretty silly, thinking that when they get a few miles down the road they would need to stop for gas again!

Then I realized that some people were barely making it, going from paycheck to paycheck, even before the gas prices skyrocketed!  I was talking to my husband earlier and made the comment that some families are probably emotionally, physically, spiritatually AND financially in trouble. I don't know what the answer is for them but I do know that we need to keep them in our thoughts and prayers. We quickly run to the disaster victims aid so lets remember our neighbors! They are victims too. In fact, we are all victims of the gas prices!

Hazy - There was a time when $5.00 worth of gas would last all week and now it lasts all of 1 hour

You are right. There are victims being overlooked here everyday. There is so much money spent on the campaigns a percentage of that would help greatly. there is an article where Mr Obama is asking for help because Mrs Clinton is now in debt. Go figure.

Hazy ~ This is exactly right and is probably a lot of the reason why some people just are not buying houses.

Hazy-  What a great post!  I agree that it we are all victims of rising gas prices, as well as food prices!  I love how you mentioned that your initial thought of how short of a distance $5-10 will get them was quickly replaced with empathy for the economical strain many are suffering right now!  I don't think that everyone would get that point so quickly!  Thank you for the gentle reminder that no matter how bad something seems to be, there are others that wish it was that good!  (I hope that made sense!!)

Jen, I understand what you are talking about. I have a friend that always told me "Treat everyone you see as if they have a broken heart because the chances are  they do"!

Everytime I remind myself of that I am in awe of the many blessing I have in my life. Anytime I even THINK about something negative, I remember what she said. It will change your life and will bring joy to the many lives you come into contact with.

Very nice sentiments, Hazy! These  prices are affecting everything we do and purchase. Asheville is one of the coolest cities I know and is marvelously sustainable and supportive of it citizens.  And of course, it's citizens are the community.  Stay local, be supportive of the folks in and around the community. This will lower our carbon footprints and help desparate families survive.

Very true. It takes 50 or 60 dollars to fill up mine. With all the BPOs that I do, that is 2 or three times a week. It definitely takes it toll.

$5 in gas is only good for 30 minutes or less in most vehicles other than Hybrids.

Hazy-  Aren't you fortunate to have such a good friend!  I think that we all need to remind ourselves that we have so many things to be thankful for that we often take for granted!
