Most know our airport for Denver - Denver International Airport, but we have another county airport that is very busy - Centennial Airport located 15 nautical miles south of downtown Denver. In fact, in 2020 it was the 8th busiest airport in the country. This airport opened in 1968 and celebrating its 57th year of operation. This is an international airport, and they are equipped with Customs. There are height and weight limits in place for all airplanes arriving (75,000# max limit).
Today they have 340,000 flights arriving and departing the airport. Back in the early 80's they had 460,000 flights. they are governed by the Board of Commissioners - 5 from Arapahoe County and 3 from Douglas County. When there is a good snowstorm, roads to this airport are first to be plowed. There are 200,000 square feet of hangar space available.
This airport is located on 1,300 acres and has a restaurant (Perfect Landing), Avalanche Grille, a 4 Point Sheraton with a micro-brewery, 5 training centers, and 120 businesses on site. There are medivac and air ambulance services and supplies. There are 10,341 jobs, and they go through 500,000 gallons of Av gas per year. There is a Stem Middle School on the grounds, and these kids attend for FREE. There are usually 325 children who attend this school.
