My favorite NC season is Peach season!!
Who doesn't love a really good juicy sweet peach? Move over Georgia, you're not the only one with a corner on the peach market.
We moved to North Carolina in July 1997 during one of the hottest summers on record. And to top that, I was 7 months pregnant with my daughter. Man was it hot! We had a 2 and a half year old so we had to get out some.
We went to the 4th of July fireworks at Koka Booth Amphitheater, the North Carolina Zoo in Asheboro, and my personal favorite, The NC State Farmers Market! Check out all the local goodness available by month.
That very first trip we made to the Farmer's market was when I fell in love with North Carolina. ♥️ First of all, the Farmer's market is huge. It has two amazing restaurants, and all sorts of local produce, plants, herbs, flowers, honey, bread, cakes, pottery, meats, and so much more! But, nothing was as good as the peaches were that summer. We went around sampling the peaches at the different stands until we found the one! We sampled the most juicy and delicious little freestone golden peach you could dream of. We took a sack home. It wasn't long before they were gone. I kept sending my husband back to get more. As we all know, a pregnant mom gets what she wants!
So, when we planned a get together with our friends this past weekend, I thought, what fresh produce is available this month. As soon as I thought "It's July" I immediately knew I had to make something with peaches. Once again, I sent my husband to the Farmer's market to get peaches and some local honey. It took a little more coaxing this time. He had his own agenda and my errand was not on it. But, I had to show homes to my clients and couldn't get there in time. #LifeOfARealtorsHusband
I turned to Google to search for a great summer peach recipe. I was not disappointed. I found this amazing recipe for Peach Bruschetta courtesy of Jeff Mauro of the Food Network. I was able to get a baguette from La Farm Bakery which is a local French bakery, local honey from Bee Blessed at the farmer's market, fresh basil from Wegmans, and local goat cheese from Whole Foods. I had everything else on hand. In case you're wondering why I went to so many places, I already had basil via my Instacart order and the french bakery has a bakery cafe inside the Whole Foods.
It was super easy to make. I did make a few without goat cheese for those who don't care for goat cheese. The hot pepper in the honey mixture was just enough heat to make it interesting. The peaches were sweet and of course the bread was delicious. Basil is my favorite herb and it added lovely notes to this recipe.
This is definitely a recipe I'll hold on to and make every year. Hurry out to your favorite local farmers market while the peaches are good. You won't regret it!
