Community and Real Estate Information

Potrero Hill is a seaside neighborhood on San Francisco's coast. South of 16th Street, north of Cesar Chavez, and west of the Bayshore Freeway is the neighborhood. When Don Francisco de Haro offered a land grant to cattle ranchers in 1835, he named it Potrero Nuevo, which means "new pasture." During the Gold Rush era, the area had substantial immigration, and as the city became increasingly industrialized, urbanization grew more intense. During the internet boom of the 1990s, several industries were transformed into office space. The neighborhood's eastern section is still largely industrial, with several ports and warehouses.

The majority of Potrero Hill's residential real estate is located west of the Southern Embarcadero Freeway. The neighborhood's suburban section is made up of a variety of single-family houses with various architectural styles. Bungalow-style, modern, Victorian, Edwardian, cottage-style, and other architectural styles may be seen across the area. A huge hillside apartment complex in the southern portion offers cheap housing units for economical rental house alternatives.

Business Opportunities

Potrero Hill lies in the heart of one of the city's biggest port districts and industrial complexes, with plenty of job possibilities. In addition, the neighborhood gives easy access to the Downtown District, which is only a 10- to 15-minute drive away.

Important Considerations

Because it is located in one of the city's busiest industrial and commercial areas, there is a strong demand for accommodation for the many employees that work in the region. Home prices in this area are likely to be substantially higher.
