We had a request a month or so ago to Stage 2 rooms in a low-income housing development in downtown Los Angeles (a rec-room and a learning center) for an upcoming inspection. This was one of the stranger jobs we've had, as the rentals were needed only for a few days to get through the inspection. We brought in art, throw pillows, kids toys, etc, to make the rooms feel warm and inviting for the residents. Well it went over so well that once the inspections were over the company hired us back to permanently "Stage" the same rooms with items that would actually stay in the development and be used by the residents.

We  chose a warm accent color for one wall in each space and added art and accessories to bring it to life.

I always love the dramatic effect of a gallon of paint in a good color -- lovely!  Thanks for sharing!  (I'm headed to a consultation today where the client already told me everything in her 3200 sq ft home is painted white -- hope I can make her a believer too!)

Great job, Annie, and love the paint colors.  We recently did a Senior Care Facility, and much as your experience - now they want to buy the furniture =).  We're also working on a home for Foster Kids in the Rampart District of Los Angeles that will be completed in a couple weeks - but that one they're buying everything - very rewarding working on these projects, isn't it?

Annie,

Even a room as simple as a lunchroom can be transformed into a calming place. The wall color has made a huge difference in the way the room feels. Great staging!

Thanks so much everyone!
Connie, it sounds as if you're becoming a specialist in altruistic Staging! Good for you. That's wonderful and yes, it is so rewarding knowing you're helping out while you do your job.

Annie: You did a wonderful job. I participated in a Designer's Challenge that the LA Weekly put on a couple of years ago. 3 designers were given $1,000 each and we had to redo the living room, dining area and kitchen in a low income housing development near downtown LA with only $1,000. We were allowed to go dumpster diving, but we couldn't ask for any freebies from stores. It was to demonstrate what the average person could do with $1,000.  I really loved doing it and my "clients" were thrilled with the outcome.

Thanks for posting your pics.
