The #1 topic of conversation at open houses in San Ramon and Danville is the highly ranked San Ramon Valley Unified School District (SRVUSD), their schools and API* scores. Other than lifestyle, schools are THE main attraction to incoming relocation buyers in San Ramon and Danville CA. Sometimes I think rather than connecting home buyers and home sellers, I'm connecting students with a desk in the best classrooms!
The state goal for all schools is an 800 API. Only 31% of all schools in California meet that goal. Less than 15% of all high schools state-wide meet the goal. All SRVUSD schools, including the high schools meet the goal.
Northern California is home to many leading employers including a large number of technology companies staffed with highly educated, highly compensated individuals with children. It's very common to meet local relocation buyers from other areas at an open house in San Ramon or Danville who want to get their children into "the good schools". They want to move here and commute to jobs in Santa Clara, San Jose, Mountain View, Neward and Fremont.
Most parents today want to place their children on the path to success and envision a their children earning a degree from one of the "right schools" such as UC Berkeley, Stanford or Saint Mary's, all located in near proximity to San Ramon. These parents know that acceptance at these colleges and universities will be very competitive and recognize the importance of a solid educational foundation.
Our high API scores attract regional relocation buyers. With a district API score of nearly 900, SRVUSD ranks as the 8th highest unified school district in the state, and the highest among unified districts with more than 20,000 students. 16 of the 19 elementary schools in the district scored higher than 900 on the Index, while every middle school and comprehensive high school in the district scored among the top 100 middle schools and high schools statewide.
Compare that to a district API of 674 for West Contra Costa Unified, where elementary scores are as low as 620, middle school scores start at 578 and one of the high school scores is 549. The district API for nearby Mount Diablo Unified is 747, Newark Unified is 739, San Jose Unified is 758. Perhaps it's now clear why people commute from San Ramon CA to their jobs in Alameda and Santa Clara County,
The school currently serves 9th and 10th grade students during its first year, becoming a 9-12 high school in the year 2009. DVHS has approximately 300,000 square feet of floor space including four 2-story classroom buildings, a career technology building, library and cafeteria facilities, and administration building. In addition to the primary academic facilities, the school has a 600-seat performing arts center, football stadium/all-weather track, two gymnasiums, baseball/softball fields and a 50-meter pool aquatics center. The expanded pool and theatre were made possible through a partnership with the City of San Ramon. Read more about the school amenties here.
*The API is the cornerstone of the state's academic accountability requirements. The API is a numerical index (or scale) ranging from a low score of 200 to a high score of 1000. It reflects a school's or district's academic performance based on annual results of statewide testing at grades two through eleven
