Thank you Kathleen Daniels, Probate & Trust Specialist for hosting our August Challenge called “What is On Your Book Shelf?” I remember those book reports we had to write. I now love watching Handsome Hudson and Beautiful Beckett writing book reports ....they started in the first grade! They love to read just like I do!
My father and I went to the Schenectady County, Scotia Branch Library every Tuesday night during the summer to check out books. I still remember reading “Gone with the Wind.” I couldn’t put it down and had a flashlight in my bed so I could stay up reading. My mom would see the light from the stairs and yell to me to shut my flashlight off and go to sleep!
I’m fortunate to have made a new friend Christina Wilkins through my grandson. She is a mother of two girls, a wife and divides her time between her attorney day job, her passion of weaving in her studio, hand dying fiber, knitting, hanging with her dogs, driving her jeep she named “Puddles.” Did I mention she is an awesome cook, baking the most delicious cakes, bread pudding, you name it!
Her first book came out last year called “Breezy In Bandera.” After meeting Christina I was compelled to order her book immediately from Amazon. The writing was so fluid and natural. She weaves her characters in and out of the story lines so well you never feel there is anything missing. They are all necessary characters relevant to her story which takes place around the Texas Hill Country (which made it even more appealing because I could picture the scenes vividly).
The characters are so believable and relatable and I fell in love with the Buchannan family. Because I know Christina I recognized the use of her rescue Havanese as a main character in the story. I didn’t want the story to end so was thrilled when her second book came out this summer called “Bandera Bound.”
Of course I devoured this second book in July and August (I read at night before going to bed so tried to space it out and not finish it all at once like I did her first book) and now am waiting for the third book that will be out next spring.
I’ve asked her how on earth she has time to write these books with everything else she does!! Her mind is always churning and she enjoys how her characters evolve in her head. It’s easy then to transform them on paper into reality. She is utterly amazing!!
I highly recommend reading both her books “Breezy in Bandera” and “Bandera Bound.” I also recommend you check out her blog “The Fiesty Knitter.” You can also follow her on Instagram @justdotchristina.
What I found is even though she can be the life of a party (if she can be persuaded to attend) she is really an introvert! Her girls tell me she wrote a blog about their family dynamics and the girls growing up that was hilarious! With a click of your mouse you can read one or both of her books and I highly recommend you do so!
