What does this mean for the Upcounty?
All federal, state and county electoral boundaries are redrawn every 10 years based on census data. In 2020 Montgomery County voters approved an increase in the number of County Council seats from nine to eleven, with seven district seats up from five. The County's Redistricting Commission is required to make their recommendations by mid-November. Given the growth we've experienced, it seems that one of the additional seats needs to be in the Upcounty to accommodate this growth.
