Here in Texas, we get the pleasure of having fresh fruit from many different Farmer's Markets throughout the Dallas Metroplex. Now is the time to think about stocking up on peaches and other fruit prepared for shelf life to last through winter.
I've tasted 2021 organic fruit spread sour cherry in a jar with no cane sugar, certified USDA Organic and it was delicious! Summer fruits are a welcoming treat. I've had plenty of peaches, plums, cherries, apricots, and nectarines, just to name a few. Strawberries, raspberries, and blueberries were so good. I can't think of anyone who stops at one.
The weather in Texas is hot right now. Eating fresh food before it spoils is a challenge. That's why I make frequent stops to the Farmer's Market. My motto is, not too much; not too little. Buy when fresh and don't waste food. After all, it's highly perishable.
Did you know that the United States grows more cherries than any other country? Cherries from the State of Washington were my personal favorite this year. Personally, if I knew more about home canning, freezing, and dehydration, my shelves would be filling up right now. With produce and food prices rising, now would be a good time to take up a hobby and save money too for edible food next winter.
Ciao! Patricia
