Set up in a similar fashion to the Market Day held earlier this weekend, the Art Festival did in fact feature more arts and crafts. A little warmer and somewhat more humid than Saturday but overall a beautiful day to stroll around the square and check out the arts and crafts.
The First thing that drew my attention was a young woman painting a house. Her name is Britney Childs, a local artist who paints all kinds of things, but mostly buildings and houses in water color. We got to talking and she says she paints quite a few homes for REALTORS as closing gifts for their client's new homes.
What a great idea! As it turns out, I already own a couple of prints of her originals (one of the Courthouse and the other of the library) I had bought at the Art Store located on South Court Square.
While visiting with Britney, I met another amazing artist, Charles Tryon who showed me his work. Beautiful sculptures that seem to call out to folks. Charles shared how some of his pieces will sometimes resonate quite profoundly with the inner feelings of some of his customers. Most of his sculptures are of figures, but I found the one item on the shelf that was a sculpted tree trunk. It reminded me of being up in the mountains out West, so I bought it. I didn't realize what it was called until I got home and saw the name in the picture. That's almost my life story, ha ha! ;-)
The hand Sculpture is pretty cool too. You can see the Redneck Gourmet behind the photo, an unmistakably Newnan landmark and establishment on the square. Below, is the gorgeous sculpture I bought.
