Did you know Ann Arbor is "25 miles surrounded by reality?"
Didn't think so, you have to live here a little while to know that little tid-bit. You will find out soon enough when you live here.
Ann Arbor the only place in the United States with the name Ann Arbor. If you GoogleAnn Arbor, it knows what you are looking for. Pretty cool, huh?
Speaking of Google.... Google opened their ad words division in Ann Arbor last year.
This is also where they are digitalizing the library of all the books allowed without copyright violations.
Ann Arbor is known as "Tree town", with the city having over 50,000 trees lining the streets.
Nichols Arboretum, affectionally called "the Arb" is a park with over 123 acres. It is a fun place to visit and walk through in all the seasons, you can picnic with family and friends, sled in the summer, relax under a tree reading a book, jog or take an evening walk.
Many people who move away say the "Arb" is one of the things they miss the most.
It is operated by the University of Michigan and is open and free to everyone from sunrise to sunset.
How can I possibly tell you about Ann Arbor without talking about THE University of Michigan. U of M. is the largest employer in Ann Arbor with over 30,000 people at the University and another 7500 at the Medical Complexes.
You can see by the layout of my blog that we are big Michigan Football fans. We are the largest football stadium in college sports. It is called "the Big House". Nothing is more fun than a Saturday afternoon, watching a football game in the Big House and tailgating with friends. Read the history of the "Big House" here.

A move to Ann Arbor would not be complete with out knowing about all the fabulous Ann Arbor Restaurants. Every ethnic restaurant is available for your dining pleasure in Ann Arbor, but nothing as notable as Zingerman's.
Zingerman's was started in 1982 in Ann Arbor, and is one of the most popular places to eat. A true N.Y. Deli, you will stand in line to eat the best deli sandwich, and baked goods in the Mid-West. I had a client once who flew in from Chicago just to pick up sandwiches and eat. Zingermans has grown into a family of restaurants with different specialties. You can print off the menu to plan your meal.
Food and Wine magazine named Zingermans one of the top 25 food markets in 2004.
Dominos World Headquarters, was founded by Tom Monaghan. The headquarters in Ann Arbor was inspired by the great American architect, Frank Lloyd Wright and sits on 271 acres at the intersection of U.S. 23 and M-14. It includes a petting farm, and a wonderful cafeteria called EBA, (everything but anchovies) During the Christmas season, there is a 2 million light display that you can drive through and enjoy in your warm car.
Missy, I visited Ann Arbor once on a little business trip to the Detroit area and I had some extra time and went over there and ABSOLUTELY loved the city. You are my Ann Arbor expert, and if I'm ever near the place again I would love to meet you.
Missy - This is some awesome local information! I wish we had "the Arb" here in Austin. We do have some terrific scenery and greenbelts, but the Arb looks more intimate.
Missy, great local info about Ann Arbor. I enjoyed reading your post. BTW, Florida Southern College has a large collection of Frank Lloyd Wright's architecture here in Lakeland, FL.
Hi Missy, This is one great post about Ann Arbor. I know very little about the Michigan expert for two important things. I grew up in Ohio and everyone knew of the football rivalry. The other thing I have come to know is You. So those are two cool things to know!
Missy, I loved the information about Ann Arbor and the photos...and the video! I wish they were still giving localism features, this one would surely make my list.
MISSY, Ann Arbor looks like a great place to live. We have a wonderful arboretum here which I just visited for the first time this last weekend (it took me 11 years). Had I realized it was FREE I probably would have went sooner. I took some great pictures; now if I could get some time to write a post.
Larry, at the time, my husband was a youth minister at U of M. for a campus outreach. He said I have skid marks all the way from the South up here. LOL
I do love it, so much to do, but "home" is still the south for me. But, if we move back to retire it will have to be where there is a college town, it is so much fun, and so many things to do.
Missy, great post for the local yokel and I love the first quote. A2 is surrounded by reality but we love being just outside it a bit in our own little world. Great intro to our great city.
Missy what a wonderful job showcasing the wonders of Ann Arbor. Still to this day I have doctors and dentists in Ann Arbor some of the best. It's also one of my favorite places and has the best football team ever. I grew up around Flint, but used to visit Ann Arbor all the time.
Missy - I've learned so much about Ann Arbor from you over the past year and yet this post gave me a renewed feeling of experiencing it - you are a great ambassador of your home town. Love seeing the kids from game day too.
Missy, I'm glad I found this...what a great ambassador you are for your beloved Ann Arbor. Your photos and video were wonderful. I really knew nothing about Ann Arbor until I met you and now I feel like I know it well!
