The pandemic has changed a lot of things—including what buyers are looking for when they evaluate a home and a neighborhood.

According to a recent survey from the Pew Research Center, in 2021, 60 percent of buyers said they would prefer living in a neighborhood where houses are larger and further apart, but several miles from restaurants, shops, schools, and other amenities—while just 39 buyers said they would prefer living within walking distance to those amenities, but in houses that were smaller and closer together. That’s a notable jump from pre-pandemic 2019, when 47 percent of buyers preferred living in a walkable neighborhood over communities with larger homes and more distance between neighbors.

The Takeaway:

So, what does this mean for you? The pandemic has shifted many buyer’s priorities, and homes with space, both in and outside, are in high demand—even if they’re miles away from the restaurants, shops, and the other amenities that traditionally appealed to buyers. So, if your home fits the bill—and you’ve been thinking about selling? Now is a great time to make a move.

Hello Ron,  I know younger people are wanting to move closer to shops and downtown for them.  They are happy for now with just two bedrooms downtown.
