Monday Musings & Inspiration: Letting Things Flow!

By

"Life is a series of natural and spontaneous changes. Don't resist them; that only creates sorrow. Let reality be reality. Let things flow naturally forward in whatever way they like."

~ Laozi (author of the Tao)

This  past week has been focused on understanding the path of least resistance, or in other terms going with the flow.  Another way of putting this idea into words is to find the path of most allowing.

Our Yin Yoga teacher encourages not to push beyond our threshold by quoting Carl Jung:

"What you resist persists, what you embrace dissolves with grace."

We both have found this to be true.  By staying still and focused on a tight spot without pushing, we find ourselves moving beyond our perceived limits.

"I equate ego with trying to figure everything out instead of going with the flow. That closes your heart and your mind to the person or situation that's right in front of you, and you miss so much."

~ Pema Chodron

We have applied this concept to our lives. If we encounter resistance, we keep moving and adapt.  We don't rue about it, we adjust and we make the best of it.  It is how we would define enlightenment.  We just go with the flow!

Wishing Everyone a Great Week

Hi Ron and Alexandra Seigel - The bottom gif is so zen-like. I can feel the calm in that image.  It must have been a very clear day.  When you can see the Channel Islands it must be clear.   It was always so cool to see Catalina Island from the southern beaches.

Hi Ron and Alexandra- I love all of the quotes and the message in your post. what I am reminded of is the little thing we played with when we were children. It was made of some kind of straw that was braided and was like a tube. You'd place each index finger in one of the openings. The harder you pulled, the tighter the straw became.    The Chinese Finger Trap

Kathy Streib perfect example, and I do remember that.  Many people are swimming upstream, because they think it is virtuous to do so.  I remember Whoopi Goldberg's quip saying that she did not want to swim upsstream, by saying do you know how ugly does salmon look?  LOL A

Ron and Alexandra Seigel This is very meaningful, and print-worthy. What comes to mind related to "what you resist persists" is the thought that "you cannot get enough of what you don't really want".Comment

Wendy Rulnick the more one rues about what does not want, the more they get it.  And vice versa.  Many argue for their limitations and end up even more limited.,  Thank you for your lovely words.  A

Hi Ron and A, great reminders for us all. I've gotten better at going with the flow. However, I enjoy figuring things out too. Sometimes in stressful situation, I have to stop and let things play out and as you quoted above, the issue can just dissolve.

Going with the flow is something both Gary and I do every day.  Sure we're focused and when things pop up unexpectedly we take a few moments, breathe and then move on knowing it will all turn out perfectly - and in fact probably better!  We've had many opportunities for this this past few months going through a remodel.  And oh my, it was all so worth, staying in the flow!!
