The concept of freedom and independence begins in early childhood by learning to ride something as simple as a tricycle or having the freedom to do something independently from others ---Patricia Feager
Looking to buy a home? Seek out a place where you can have fun. Too often I see adults looking for something they saw on some form of social media. From that image they compare and contrast what they want when buying a home.
Will buying a new home give you freedom and independence you need? Comparing yourself to social comparison may be a trap to financial disaster.
Do Sellers really know what a Buyer wants? Are sellers spending too much time on various social media platforms for the perfect pictures to stage their home and are they spending more money on home improvements that neither the buyer or seller will enjoy?
Does inspiration spring from within? When taking measurements into consideration, is it more important to size-up your own wants and needs rather than compare yourself to the "Joneses?"
What does a tricycle have to do with buying or selling a home? Freedom and independence.
What does freedom mean to Tenants? Freedom from paying rent and the ability to acquire wealth from an investment in homeownership can be inspiring and rewarding if you stay within your means and you seek out fun and opportunity.
What makes you happy and allows you to have fun? There are many places inside and outside your new home that can give you opportunities to have privacy and fun. Or do you want to live in a museum-like environment where you and others can look but cannot touch?
Is the Kitchen & Family Room adequate? Do you like to cook and entertain? Does the kitchen, living room, or family room give you the space and freedom you need to enjoy what you love to do most? Will you be able to store products you need inside a pantry or behind closed doors and/or drawers, and will there be enough cabinets and shelves? Can you easily obtain what you need independently when preparing meals for yourself or guests? Do you have the space you need to safely store, prepare, and create a meal and obtain what you need within reach without climbing or bending more than you should? Will you have enough room taking into consideration work and/or table space and chairs? Lighting? Functionality? Safety?
What are safety tips to take into consideration for infants and toddlers?
- Do lower cabinets need latches for protection from hazardous products?
- Are electrical outlets out of reach and have safety protection?
- Is there room for safety gates, if needed now or in the future?
- Can you safely store knives out of reach from climbers and wrong hands?
Does your home give you the independence and safety you desire? Do you need a place to park inside a garage with lights and a garage door that opens and closes without having to park on the street after dark? Sidewalks and a driveway without cracks for walking, riding a bicycle, running? Curbs? Storage? Stairs or no stairs? Safety rails on staircases? Fence for privacy, pets, or small children? Adequate lighting and climate control?
What do you define as fun? Only you can answer that question. Things to take into consideration are location, transportation, amenities, community events, parks and trails, shopping for groceries and material goods, clubs or activity centers, coffee shops, fitness centers, schools, libraries, tennis courts, swimming pools, neighborhood Facebook groups, neighbors, pet parks?
If everything you desire disappears because of the economy, things outside of your control (pandemic) will you still be happy with what you have because you made the right choices taking into consideration affordability and your own personal freedom and independence?
Ask not what other people or your government can do for you but what can you do for yourself ---Patricia Feager
