"Garden of Lights" Returns to Brookside Gardens, Wheaton, Maryland

Garden of Lights,” the 23rd annual outdoor winter light exhibit at Brookside Gardens in Wheaton, will open on Nov. 19. Advance time-entry tickets are now available.

Garden of Lights will transform Brookside Gardens into a winter wonderland with twinkling lights and glimmering displays decorating paths and flowerbeds throughout the 50-acre site located at 1800 Glenallan Ave. in Wheaton. The Garden of Lights was not held in 2020 due to the COVID-19 health crisis.

The one-half mile walk-through display consists of more than one million colorful LED lights, many handwoven into original works depicting animals, flowers and other natural elements. The event also features computerized light displays matching lights with music and fog bubbles.

The Garden of Lights will be open nightly from 5:30-9:30 p.m. through Jan. 2. The exhibit will be closed Nov. 22-25 and Dec. 24-25. The Gardens, the Visitor Center and the Conservatory will close daily at 4 p.m. and reopen at 5:30 p.m. for the exhibit.

New this year will be that all guests ages 3 and older will be required to prepurchase timed-entry tickets. The tickets are $10 per person. More information about purchasing tickets can be found at https://www.montgomeryparks.org/parks-and-trails/brookside-gardens/garden-of-lights/.

“We’re excited to bring back the Garden of Lights in 2021 after having to cancel in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Stephanie Oberle, the director of Brookside Gardens, which is operated by Montgomery Parks. “There are new measures in place to ensure the health and safety of our guests, but they will still find our one-of-a-kind light displays and the magical experience of the Gardens at night.”

For more information about the exhibit, go to Garden of Lights Frequently-Asked-Questions.

Brookside Gardens is a horticultural display garden with intricately designed landscapes, permanent and seasonal displays and two conservatories. Throughout the year, the Gardens welcome more than 850,000 visitors. Learn more about Brookside Gardens at www.brooksidegardens.org.

Good morning Roy. Great event! Chicago has a similar event called "zoo lights" at the Lincoln Park zoo. This year, you will need tickets because of COVID. Enjoy your day.
