Bacon in a PanWhile reading posts this week by my fellow local bloggers Ken Montville and Patricia Kennedy about discovering a connection to Lenn Harley in the middle of transaction, I began to wonder how many connections could be made on Active Rain.  With 90,000 plus members you have to suspect that there are more connections than we could imagine and possibly some lost relatives to be found.

As I was pondering my phone rang and it was my brother calling from Florida.  A few weeks ago I had the good fortunate to attend my nieces wedding in St Petersburg. After I came back a random comment on a post by Sharon Simms unearthed that her office was only a few blocks away from the hotel where the wedding took place.  Unfortunately due to my schedule I had missed a chance to have a cup of coffee with her.

While my brother and I were talking about his latest commercial real estate deal I mentioned Sharon's name. I should mention that my brother only "dabbles" in real estate, his full time job is a successful dentist.   As soon as I said her name he said oh sure I know Sharon she has been a patient of mine for years.  So faster than you can say Kevin Bacon I had a connection to another Active Rainer.

So how many connections have you made on Active Rain?  I'm sure there have to be some great stories to share!

Cindy:  I've blogged about it so you can read more if you are interested, but I connected with some Rainers in TN and we've become close friends.  We just had a connection in our comments on various posts, so when I had the chance to visit Nashville, I contacted them and we had lunch ... now we talk several times during the week either by email, phone, or on AR.  I call these people my RAIN-FRIENDS!

Good post... how neat that you have the chance to know Sharon Simms, a true AR icon!

Hi Ken...So far I have not had that experience as I am the only one that is active on Active Rain here in my isolated/insulated (whatever) part of the world.

However, I know some fellow Rainers through my work on the Grievance Committee at my local association.

One of these days though I share our experience.  I'm looking forward to it.

Jan-Congratulations on your connection with some other rainers.  It was interesting to learn that I had a "connection" to Sharon through my brother.   It shows how small the world is!

Cindy~ That is what I love about the Rain!  The friends and the connections are great, and the extra business isn't bad either!

I saw a blog once by a Realtor from La Grande Oregon, I mentioned in the comments that I have a cousin who lives in La Grande and owns 2 restaruants there.  She e-mailed me and asked me if my cousin's name was Sandy Sorrells.  I replied with a resounding 'yes, how did you know?'.....she had sold Sandy her house several years ago and had become good friends with her!

Adam-I can't imagine that there aren't loads of connections aka Bacon style that can be found on AR.  I'm going to try to make more by checking in with members in where I have relatives and friends and see how many more I can make.

Cindy, it's amazing to me the sort of connections I can feel to people I've never met face to face!  And meeting them is really fun when it does happen!

The Kevin Bacon connection made me laugh.  How far away can Madonna be from this group?

Patricia-who would have thought that all of this social networking "stuff" (technical term) could lead to not only business but fun and interesting people too.

It is amazing how few touches it takes to make a connection like you did.  You just never know who knows who.

This world is definitely smaller than we often think.  Another reason we should all be good to one another!

Cindy: Great story. I have had the opportunity to meet a couple active rainers who I didn't know before. Looking forward to meeting many more.

Cindy - That is pretty funny about Sharon.  I bet your brother was more surprised that you knew her.  I have met a few Denver bloggers, some I have know for quite some time.  I did have the opportunity to have drinks this spring with Jeff Turner after the Colorado Realtor Rally, he was as nice as I suspected he would be.   I know you have mentioned you have a relative here so I suppose someday I may bump into them...

I had person with whom I share a name send me an email. It was cool to interact with someone who has gone through life with the same label.

Steve-it was a huge surprise to mention a commercial realtor in FL and my brother knew immediately who it was.  The next time I head to visit my son in Highlands Ranch I will be bringing your number.  I'm not going to make the same mistake twice.

It's great to see so many people here referring and sharing information.  The referrals are better, relationships are stronger.  How did we ever do without Active Rain?

Cindy

We so often get lost caring only for our clients.  Your piece proves that to serve them best we need to honor and respect our industry peers.

By the way, do you have an outside blog that I can add to my blog roll?

Thanks, and I look forward to hearing your thoughts about the world of real estate.

James-thanks for stopping by.  Since I lived in AZ for 6 years we might find that even our paths crossed at one point :-)

I would be honored to have you add my outside blog to your blog roll.
