Time to Move the Clocks Back for Daylight Saving Time
It's that time of year again when we move the clock backwards to save extra daylight, also known as Daylight Savings Time. It generates a lot of controversy and not all countries keep the change.
The first reference to the time saver was credited to Benjamin Franklin in a publication he wrote in 1784.
“Every morning, as soon as the Sun rises, let all the bells in every church be set ringing: and if that is not sufficient, let cannon be fired in every street to wake the sluggards effectually… . Oblige a man to rise at four in the morning, and it is probable that he will go willingly to bed at eight in the evening.”
It was, however many years later that the Germans first set the time standard as a way of saving fuel during World War 1. The British adopted the change shortly after that and in 1918 the US Congress adopted the Standard Time Act which officially created the time change, although with much controversy.
So to make the transition properly, set your alarm clocks for 1:55 AM, allowing for a few minutes to become properly alert and set the clocks backward 1 hour. Unless you want to wake up again at the new 1:55, you should disable the alarm.
