Wordless Wednesday….Ohhh That Explains It

Larry and I love observing wildlife wherever we are. We are very fortunate to have an abundance of it in our backyard. Bluebirds, hummingbirds, Bluejays, Mockingbirds, squirrels, and many seasonal friends.

Often when we leave for our morning walks and return, we are greeted by a squirrel looking for us over the fence as we pull into the garage or peeking in the window.

squirrel at window

The birds are out feeding and chirping.

The other day no one was around. No squirrels or birds.  We weren’t sure what happened to them.

And then we saw why…

And after they left, this other fellow showed up.

Go hide little birds and Mr. Squirrel. We’ll see you later.

We have the same going on here Kathy.  Everyonce in awhile this guy (s) show up and it's so quiet you could here a pin drop.  And every night lately there is a pair or owls making noise and surely looking for dinner.

We don't let our little dogs out alone because of bald eagles. The best part, though, is that we have deer and fawns roaming around neighbors and in streets (downtown Port Townsend, WA). I'm waiting to take my next masterpiece pictures of deer crossing streets on a crosswalk! 🦌 I hope you continue to enjoy your walks. Thank you for sharing your heart-warming pictures, Kathy.

Hopefully, the regular critters will outwit the preyers! Perhaps, if they also said a prayer, that might help!

That will do it.  All summer we had 3 rabbits around the yard but for the past few weeks, they seem to have disappeared

Nina Hollander, Broker the squirrels are more interested in fresh acorns for now.

Carla Freund when they sense danger they will freeze and then begin making that screeching noise to warn the others.

Sharon Tara it really is sad. We were in Florida on a walk and saw the same thing happen. We had young children with us but they seemed to take it in stride. I don't think they realized what was happening.

Anna Banana Kruchten CRS, CRB, Phoenix Broker that's a beauty!!!  I have to remind myself that they have to eat too!

Wanda Kubat-Nerdin - Wanda Can! I get frightened for the squirrels when I see them freeze when they sense a predator nearby. They look like statues.

Their instincts are well honed, rabbits do the same here when they sense danger.

It's fascinating to watch the wildlife, isn't it Kathy Streib  I especially like that pic of the squirrel.

We can always tell when one of the hawks is around - everyone disappears!
