What If You Don't Find That Condo In Baltimore

Insanity: Doing the same thing over and over and looking for different results.

That's what it's like trying to find homes for our empty-nesters and baby boomers.

You may never find that large Baltimore Condo!

For two years, I have been looking for the "right" condo for buyers who want to plan for the next 15 years.

They are empty-nesters.  And they are not looking to downsize but to right-size.

Space to live and enjoy, and they want all the bells and whistles. Waiting for large condos in our area has been frustrating. If and when these rare condos become available, they sell before they hit the market, have bidding wars, or need significant updates. The buyers want their dream home,  including the latest kitchen and baths, and are willing to remodel for their custom needs.  Thinking this will be their last home, they want what they want, and they want it now.

I am exhausting all sources for these limited units through print media,  radio, blogging, and networking with other agents. There are not enough choices in our Baltimore area. Florida and other warm places cater to this kind of living. But, these folk want to stay in Maryland because of business, family, or just the love of the area.

Here's another solution for some of these buyers who have the funds and the vision—existing single-family ranchers. If lucky, you can find a rare home that has been cared for, updated, and in move-in condition. But most times, it is the older homes with significant wear-and-tear.

Time for a good designer and an architect to bring your dreams to life.

But those who want to eliminate the exterior maintenance, including lawn care, are not considering another single-family home. When living in a condo, you also have to compromise with limited parking, lack of privacy, elevator use, pet restrictions, and various condo rules.

There is no 'one size fits all",  at least not in Baltimore homes.

It seems one compromise is single-family, one-level living, and hiring a staff to maintain snow, lawn, leaves, and even weekly sweeping your front porch, etc. When looking at monthly condo fees, those costs may even out or maybe less.

A single-family one-level rancher home may be best for those frustrated with limited age in place choices.

Margaret I like your suggestion of a:

"single-family, one-level living, and hiring a staff to maintain snow, lawn, leaves, and even weekly sweeping your front porch, etc."

Average condo fees around here can be between $300 to $400, and that pays for A LOT of monthly maintenance.

Hello Margaret - sometimes a shift in thinking can open all sorts of possibilities.  Here's hoping that happens for these Baltimore area buyers.  And others like them who prefer living their dream rather than continuing to search for it.

Hi Margaret, thank you for the options in your post, something a single family may be a better fix and less in fees.
