Find out how to do up your door with ease so that it looks beautiful and greets your family and your guests in the best possible way.

The front door is the place that represents our home, that we use to shut away the world, and to welcome in guests to the place we love the most. For that reason, it’s always nice to give your front door a bit of a makeover so that it looks great, makes you feel happy and proud when you use it, and when your guests see it.

To help you, we have some handy tips to help you transform this important aspect of your home:

Choose A Better Door Colour

If you can change your door colour - do. Your door colour says a lot about you and a fresh, bright colour can totally transform the front of your home. Dark blue suggests positivity and a regal feel, with bright blue being more whimsical. White is clean and organised, and yellow is confident, curious and a little bit unique. Green could suggest a healthy or earthy vibe, whereas red is vibrant and exciting.

Your door colour says a lot about you so if you can express yourself by changing the colour with paint, do.

Add A Garland

Garlands are a great way to make a front door look beautiful in a temporary way that can change depending on the season, like this DIY Christmas garland.

Natural garlands made with local, sustainable, fresh plants and accessories are a great choice and can be adapted to suit the time of the year.

Go Quirky With Your Number

Your house number or name should be clear, but it can be eye catching and unique. Choose numbers at least 4 inches tall and experiment with font style, perhaps even opting for letters instead of numbers. A new number that is not rusty or faded can instantly freshen up a door.

Don’t Forget The Surrounding Space

The surrounding space around the front door is just as important as the front door itself. Declutter your front garden by placing seasonal items in cheap self storage, (see here for more details) and then selling or gifting items you no longer want or need. Once that is done, make sure you weed the area and then consider adding some nice pot plants to brighten up the entryway at a minimal cost.

Give It A Clean

The rain, wind and other weather fronts can mean your front door gets all kinds of debris building up on it, making it appear grubby. Every time you give your porch a bit of a clean on the inside, don’t forget to wipe down the front door too. It shows visitors you care, and you’re maintaining your home.

Add A House Mat

If you have a front porch with a cover, a mat can be a great way of making the space look more welcoming. A simple welcome mat will work, but do make sure it is securely gripped to the floor so it doesn’t become a safety issue.

Now you’re ready to give your front door a makeover.

With the right changes and improvements, the entry to your home will look welcoming, modern and welcoming.

Great advice!  The house we are getting ready to list had a very poor color on the front door.  We have painted it a better color and it does make a big difference.
