This is my Option 3 post which is to call an AR member we have never spoken with and an entry to the ActiveRain Bells Ringing During the 2021 Holiday Season Challenge hosted by Kathleen Daniels.
I placed a call to Mayra Espinosa Realtor San Mateo Pacifica Homes on December 11, 2021. The call went to voicemail. Within a short period of time, Mayra returned my call. I was not certain she would be a willing participant yet, Mayra was more than willing and happy to chat with me and agreed that our call could be part of the December challenge. In fact, she said she is "very honored that I called her."
Mayra came to America from the Dominican Republic at the age of 23. She did not speak English. That spells courage to me!
Initially, we talked about ActiveRain, RainCamps, blogging, SEO, and real estate. She attended RainCamps back in the day. Her plan is to be more active with blogging in the Rain. She confessed that writing is "not her cup of tea ... that it is the hardest thing so can do."
We talked about the real estate market. She is in San Mateo County which is the first county to the North of Santa Clara County. Our markets are similar. Inventory is low. Demand is High. Home prices are soaring!
Mayra worked many short sales as well as REOs. While the REO's she listed were challenging, she received personal satisfaction helping so many people in default. She is proud of what she does to help people.
The more we talked the easier the conversation started to flow into areas that won't be shared here. As I was ready to end the call she mentioned something about running for City Council.
I said, Wait. What? Did you run for City Council for the City of Pacifica? She responded, yes.
Well, tell me more about that!
She ran because she did not see anyone doing anything for the neighborhood community. What she did not know was one candidate was rerunning. The Association of Realtors paid for the campaign.
Wait for it! People who were looking to see who was running found Mayra on ActiveRain! Googling her name resulted in her profile and posts from ActiveRain.
Mayra feels committed to doing things in the area to help the community. The remaining funds donated to her campaign will be given to a local charity.
As we were discussing family she mentioned she has chickens. Anyone who knows me knows how much I adore chickens and about the story behind rescuing a rooster in my community.
At this point, we are 2 hours on the call.
Her love for chickens all started showing property in Modesto. She saw chickens in a cage and described them as "singing". They got to her and she knew she wanted chickens. They are her pet. Anyone who has pets know they are family!
They are spoiled too. They get all kinds of fresh fruits and veggies. The chickens eat better than her. They also get what Mayra describes as "treats".
She offered to give me some eggs. How kind was that? While I do not eat eggs or chickens, I am happy to accept her offer and give the eggs to my son.
2 hours and 40 minutes later we agreed we will meet for lunch sometime in January 2022. Marya has the qualities of a person I'd like to call my friend. I hope to get to know her better and someday meet her chickens.
Until then, I live with the memory of my love for Mr. Green Jeans and the planter I recently purchased in San Juan Bautista.
I am grateful I was guided to call Mayra. There is no doubt in either of our minds that it was a call that was supposed to happen and it happened at the right time. To think that we have both been members of ActiveRain as long as we have and never met or spoke before yesterday boggles my mind.
Thank you, Mayra Espinosa Realtor San Mateo Pacifica Homes for your time, respect, and kindness. It was an honor to speak with you. I look forward to meeting you next year.
