This is an entry into the ActiveRain "December Challenge - tis the season for miracles --- scares". I had no idea what to write about until all of a sudden (DUH) it struck me. December 23, 2019 is close enough to Christmas to count as a Christmas miracle.
Anyone reading this has probably already heard of my move from the town of Monroe, NY to Kalispell, MT. We left NY with visions of more enjoyable vistas and neighbors, with hopes of healthier pastimes and rural adventures. As for the actual move, our original timeframe, which had us living in our R-Pod through the summer as they built our home had to be revised due to issues that kept us in NY longer...
So we arrived in Montana in late August 2019. It was already getting close to Autumn, and with no running water or electricity on our property, staying there during the colder months was going to be difficult if not impossible. So we headed for an RV campground and started making inquiries immediately. Cold months in an 18' camping trailer was not going to be cozy and rosy. We needed an alternative.
After unsuccessfully looking for a furnished monthly rental, I started calling AirBNB and VBRO properties, looking for someone who was willing to give us a "winter rate" for their property. And we wound up finding an amazing rental property with a fantastic owner who was happy to help out, as long as we were out by April. Oh sure, no problem, our home was supposed to be done by late February.
So to make this story really short, we totally enjoyed our time in the rental, but kept our eye on the calendar. And can you believe it? Our amazing builders worked diligently on our home. We would stop by to check progress and find multiple trades people there working at the same time. The building contractor would stop by twice a day to make sure things were going right, and to fix whatever needed to be adjusted.
And then we got the call. "Your home is done and you can move in."
So after only four months of building, on December 23, 2019 we moved into our new home. We had no furniture since we couldn't get it delivered for another week. But we moved in anyway. We put our camper mattress in the bedroom and bought three stools for our kitchen island. We got a new TV, put it on some boxes, and brought in our two camp chairs. We walked outside, cut down a 2' tree, and decorated it with a few bulbs we found in a box. And with the cooking utensils and pots we had in the camper, we were able to make a wonderful Christmas Eve meal and invite a few new friends over for dinner. AND new neighbors invited us over to their house that Christmas Day for brunch.
So.. my Christmas miracle was being able to enjoy our first Christmas in Montana in our own home without furniture... It was a beautiful time that will be forever remembered. And it was the beginning of a new chapter of life, one which has been amazingly fulfilling.
The end.
