Beating a dead horse

By
Home Stager with Stage-Show-Sell

Stagers are we beating a dead horse?   Are the reltors and home owners listening to us?

Today I met a realtor from another state.  She was so excited that we had something in common besides grandkids playing ball.

She talked about all the listings that she had.  How that were all taking price reductions and things were slow.

I talked about how happy I was that my staging is doing well.

Well staging seemed to be something that she never heard of.  Why would anyone want to stage their home.  They should sell it like it is.

I looked up her website.

This is just one house.   The other ones were just like it.

The last photo is my favorite.  It would make me run out and buy that house.

Virginia~ How could a Realtor NOT know about staging? Pictures do speak a thousand words, don't they?

Was she also a part time "rocket scientist" or perhaps a brain surgeon as well?  Ha!  I run into listings like this all the time and in this market, you would just think that the agents would know better!

We are not beating a dead horse we are dealing with uneducated, prideful people who think that staging is telling the client to keep their house clean and blinds up during showing. WE NEED TO EDUCATE and then prove the value of our services by staging these listings and watching them sell

Yikes!  From what I can see (other than the tons of stuff), this home has so much potential!  What a disservice to tell a homeowner that its ok to "sell it like it is," and what on earth is the homeowner thinking???  We all have lots of work to do!

Hi Virginia!  UGH!  I feel your pain - and think of the pain this Realtor has trying to just get these homeowners to list with her.  She is probably exhausted and at the end of the day has no energy except checking her phone calls and email.  This Realtor is the perfect candidate for Staging and your guidance - keep working it.  She will be your biggest fan once you help her understand how you can make her life easier!  Good luck!

Was this Realtor from Connecticut?  Seriously, as Phyllis points out, there's so much education that still needs to be done.  However, I also believe that Realtors who want to get ahead and do the best for their clients would look to set themselves apart - and on top - by using Staging, as well as other advances - like more photos on MLS.  Julie

hi, Virginia:
My favorite is either the pet bowls in the kitchen with the rug all out of sorts.  I suppose if your target market was petlovers who are slobs she would be right on!

I can totally relate to your frustration...where I live (North Alabama) staging is nonexistent! They just don't get it and I am just starting out, trying to make everyone "get on board" with staging...sometimes it amazes me the pictures realtors will post on the internet...I wouldn't even consider looking at that listing...good luck!

Follow this post http://activerain.com/blogsview/652670/Your-Asking-Price-Determines and you will see what I talking about.   99% of the post talks about priceing.  The other 1% mention staging or condition.

That's why I did my posting on fudiciary responsibility, which was basically ignored by the realtors.

This is so sad!  When I see pictures like this I just want to run over to my phone and give these people a call.  But unfortunately, I know how ineffective that would be.  Only when the house has been on the market for months, will they realize that something needs to be done and it's usually lowering the price instead of considering improving the condition of the house.  Lowering the price isn't always the answer, if they'd just call in a stager, they'd realize that we'll make their home sell faster and closer to asking price.

Emma, I'll drink to that.

I wish I could get the email address for the sellers.  Send them a link to the mls to show them what the public sees.

Oh Virginia, you can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink.

Sometimes I think they should make realtors pass a vision test before they hand thema a license.
