City of Gaithersburg Fall Loose Leaf Collections Ending Soon

The winter season has arrived which means the fall loose leaf collection will be wrapping up. The week of December 27, 2021 is the last week for fall loose leaf collection. Be sure to have your leaves at the curb by 7 a.m. on your regular recycling day (Thursday in Kentlands) .

Loose Leaf Collection Guidelines

  • Collection is suspended on Thanksgiving & Christmas.
  • Collection is suspended during inclement weather. During periods of potential storm activity, please delay leaf raking until after the effects of the storm have passed.
  • Please remove limbs, rocks or other heavy objects from leaf piles.
  • Never drive across or park over a leaf pile.
  • Do not allow children to play in leaves along the street.
  • Do not rake leaves into gutters or streets. Rake them into grassy areas behind the curb line to allow water to flow into catch basins. This will help prevent the basins from clogging and will help prevent street flooding. Assistance moving leaves already in gutters to grassy areas would be greatly appreciated.
  • The burning of leaves is not allowed in the City.

Yard Waste

Brush & Branches
Collected when placed at the curb on your recycling day, laid straight, tied in bundles or placed in biodegradable brown paper bags. Items must be no more than 4 inches in diameter and 6 feet in length, and weigh no more than 40 pounds.

Grass Clippings & Other Yard Trimmings
Collected when placed at the curb on your recycling day in biodegradable brown paper bags.

Dirt, rocks & mulch are not accepted for yard waste. To find answers to all your questions, check out Recycle Coach.

Holiday Trees are considered yard waste & will be collected following these guidelines.

What a wonderful service for your area.  We do not have a loose leaf service here.  It would be very welcome.

I don't believe we have this kind of service in Western Washington. Then, again, most of our trees stay green all year-round, and not many loose leaves around. I do admire your photo though, hope that beautiful flower stays blooming for a long time! Thank you, Roy Kelley for sharing this post.

Nice to hear that leaves are picked up.  I noticed the gardeners had big piles of them.  Wishing you delightful day.  A

This is important information for folks living in Gaithersburg, Roy.  I wish we had one of those vacuum trucks in our community.  We have to place all our leaves in bins here.
