Thursday afternoon the winds in Boulder County experienced gusts between 75 and 115 mph, and a power line went down. This caused a fire, and the winds spread the fire quickly. It wasn't long and many acres were engulfed in fire with many homes lost. There have not been any lives lost at this time, thankfully!
Our area has not had any snow (ok, maybe an inch), barely any rain, and we are SO dry here, we are crunchy. It doesn't take much to develop the disaster we have here.
Many families just celebrated Holidays and was their last in the home they knew. Some will rebuild, some will not. Some neighborhoods were completely leveled by the fire. Southwest Boulder, Superior, and Louisville have been affected, and around 6200 acres. The numbers this morning are about 500 homes and structures that have burned. It is estimated that 35,000 people have been evacuated. Just devastating. And to complicate things, we are expecting a weather change and snow later today. When powerful storms are heading our way, there is usually wind preceding a storm. Parts are of the mountains will see up to 3 feet of snow.
This makes one think of being evacuated, and what do you take with you? Are you ready to gather these items and get out of your home on short notice? A reminder to video your home belongings to help the insurance company to know what you have lost.
