40 acres of blooming Daylilies makes quite a spectacular sight. This past weekend was the annual Oakes Daylily Festival in beautiful Corryton, Tennessee, a charming rural community about 15 miles east of Knoxville.

My wife and I went for a visit yesterday, had a great time, bought lots of Daylilies, and made a few photos.

See more of them here.

Daylilies are the perfect flower for the brown or black thumbed gardener. Easy to grow, hard to kill.

Daylilies like any type of soil, withstand dry or drought conditions well, and are resistant to most insects and plant diseases. I love them and have lots of them planted in my yard and around the house.

Here's a couple of my latest additions we bought yesterday.

Brown thumbed gardener checking in! Thanks for sharing Jim. I love flowers and enjoy them, just can't grow them!

You need to give Daylilies a shot. They're bulletproof, just stick em it the ground and stand back. I had so many at our former home I dug them up, divided them, and gave big sacks full to about 10 people at my office.

They spread fairly rapidly and some of the re-blooming varieties bloom up to 3 times a year from early spring til frost.

Mmm... just stick them in the ground and stand back? I could probably handle that! I may have to give these a try.
