Atlanta Buckhead Midtown:
Client Wants the House But Needs An Elevator

When in Buckhead, Midtown and the Westside, one sees elevators in many places. Grand old elevators - such as in photo above - and grand new elevators.

Home installation for elevators is a different subject. Years ago, adding an elevator was a full remodel job. Installation was very complicated and  so many inspections were required.

In answer to the Client's request, today I learned about alternatives to the old traditional chairlift installed on the wall of a staircase. Lots of reasons not to want the chairlift sparked some very creative and innovative ideas.

BEAM ME UP SCOTTIE!
     Well, that's what I thought...
Actually, it is a vacuum powered elevator with three different motor options.

Then there is STILTZ for a more conservative approach.
The newest model can hold three people and accommodate a wheelchair.

The Lifestyle Lift -  designed in England and manufactured by Terry Lifts, offers yet another look. The amazing thing about these options is that they avoid the previous heavy construction requirements. The support system is based on wall rails to move the unit up and down.

So for now, I found several options to share with the Client. Let's hope that the house they want will offer the right fit to the Home Elevator!

Good morning Lynn - if that catches on the results could be revolutionary in homes for seniors.

Hello Lynn - as changes in our population occur, the building industry takes notice.  Sometimes not as quickly as there is demand but change arrives.

Good morning Lynn. Necessity is the mother of invention. Alternatives to the traditional elevators are just beginning to find their way. Enjoy your day.

Interesting! I'll bet there are a lot of people who could use an elevator, and would prefer that to moving to a home that's all on one floor!

They have certainly improved over the years.  A few years ago I sold a foreclosure with one in it.  I'd be hesitant to use one if I lived alone or with everyone in the house in the elevator because of story I heard about an elderly couple who died when their got stuck between floors.

Lynn the newer home elevators are less costly, more attractive, and still very well built.
