dolphinThat's right, there are Dolphins in NJ... I have often seen the smaller dolphins, more of a spotted Porpoise while sailing, They like to surf the waves in the inlet.... But these are genuine cousins of Flipper!

There has been a pod of about a twenty Bottle nose dolphins, including at least 2 calves,  swimming in the Shrewsbury River for about a week now.

There is concern that they may get hurt with heavy boat traffic on the weekends, but so far all that has not happened

And everyone thinks that NJ is not a fun place to visit!  I wish I could find the picture of the Seal that camped out on a friends dock this past winter.

Have a great Sunday!

Awesome, I never realized that there is more to NY than business, shopping and partying, and when it comes to Dolphins, I am only thinking about my back yard. They are so beautiful to watch.

Every one thinks of NJ as being one big refinery.. Newark Airport, and the opening credits from "The Sopranos".  NJ is MUCH more! thats why I blog on some of the good points when ever I get a chance!

I've always loved dolphins.  Our family actually got to swim with one at Discovery Cove in Orlando a few years ago.  We'll always remember that...   :)

Robert: How do you do it?  You consistently touch on my loves:  sailing, dogs and now dolphins.  Those creatures and the Tamarins have always put smiles on my face.   I see them sometimes when I jog on the beach in the morning and I've been tempted to just jump in the water and go socialize with them.  I love dolphins!  They are the only creatures who can completely rest one half of their brains in a complete alpha state, while the other half keeps going at full throttle.   They are remarkable in every respect, so social and peaceful.  Just thinking about them makes me happy.  Seeing them always makes me soar!

Mirela, I guess birds of a feather flock together! You and I definately think alike that is for sure! I love dolphins as well, and I would probalby jump in with them.. I got to swim with them in the Keys a few years ago. When I dive or snorkel I love to swim with sea life, the bigger the better, the interaction is just too much fun for words!

Robert, how awesome, wouldn't have guessed that you would see them that far north.

HI Robert,

As a transplanted Jersey Girl I spent many a summer night down the street from you in Seaside.  I have camped in Toms River too.  I saw a lot of dolphins in my days on the beach but 20 in the river Wow!  I hope they can be helped back out into open waters where there is less danger from boating traffic.

Rob, love the dolphin photos!  I'm in there with Mirela again - dolphins are awesome!  It was a big thrill to swim with them in Cancun and I have had them swim along boats I've been on a few times.  They are such happy, gentle creatures.

Mirela - I didn't know about the dolphin's ability to be in alpha state, yet fully alert at the same time - that is pretty wild.

did u know last time the officials tried moving the dolphins out of nj because lake was frozen a few

swam under the ice and drowned  its going to be a very sticky situation if they don't leave on there own its a shame for everyone who loves them theres someone who wants to harrass them,i wish the dolphins luck they are going to need it when it comes to living with man kind

Your photos are great!  I posted a blog about my sail with the dolphins last night and thought... I wonder if anyone else has commented on this. Thanks for sharing. It is a joy to sail with these beautiful creatures!
