Wonderful Wednesday: Meyer Lemon Almost Ready!

By
Services for Real Estate Pros with Napa Consultants DRE00893924

Pictured above is a photo of the progress of one of my Meyer lemon trees.  These beauties are not ready to be picked.   They are not the right color yet.

One reason is that the fruit is still hard as are the green ones,.  The other is that the color of the yellow should be warmer leaning more to a sunnier warmer yellow color.  The juice and the flesh are less acidic that a regular lemon.

"Citrus × meyeri, the Meyer lemon, is a hybrid citrus fruit native to China. It is a cross between a citron and a mandarin/pomelo hybrid. " Wikipedia

Happy Wednesday!

While visiting a friend in Los Angeles, I enjoyed a salad dressed with juice from a Meyer Lemon tree in his back yard while he prepared the meal.  It was years ago, and I still smile every time I remember the way it tasted!  Thank you for the really nice reminder!

Hi Ron and Alexandra- that is so exciting!!!  I remember sending a Meyer Lemon tree (small) to a friend many years ago.  That's one of the joys of growing something!!!

And so good to see you Patricia Kennedy

Kathy Streib We almost use Meyer lemons exclusively.  We are fortunate to have growers, when both of mine are finished.  A

Patricia Kennedy When I had a big Meyer tree in Los Angeles, I used to send a boxful to a friend in Pennsylvania .  Now my two small ones do not produce enough to do that.

I am glad you are back on Active Rain. I always enjoyed your posts.  A

Bob "RealMan" Timm Citrus do not do well in Cold climates.  I had a mini greenhouse in Napa for my lemons.  The French  had glassed in gazebos know as orangeries (where citrus trees were kept in the winter.  And the temperature controlled.  A

Love Meyer Lemons unfortunately in my back yard I have a traditional lemon tree and it generates so much fruit, I never get to buy Meyer Lemons... even when we give away bagful to friends and acquaintances:)Endre

We had one and it did quite well, but it didn't survive the indoor/outdoor transition after winter. Yours looks so healthy.
