How to Display Your Favorite Memorabilia
There are some treasures we have whose worth does not rest in its monetary value. Their value is in what they represent to us. They could remind us of a special event…a gift…a special time in our lives…it’s all unique to us and personal.
And if you’re lucky, you have many of those treasures. Recently I shared the idea of rotating your collections just as museums do.
However, there are items we love and don’t want to pack them away in the attic or basement.
Years ago I visited a friend whose husband’s family owned a ranch outside Houston. He treasured the worn and bloodied chaps he’d worn when he was just a little boy. They represented all of the fun he’d had on the ranch.
For years they kept them in a box in the attic until my friend decided they needed to be on display for him and the rest of the family to enjoy.
She had them mounted and framed in a lucite frame and hung them where they could be seen!
I did this for a special worn and torn T-shirt that was given to Larry by our dear friend Tom. Tom’s nickname was Curly. One Christmas, someone in the family gave Tom a Curly (of the Three Stooges) T-shirt and a Larry shirt to my Larry. Too bad we didn’t have a Moe!
Finally, I talked Larry into letting me have his shirt framed because one more washing and I’m sure it would have fallen apart!
You can find other creative ways to showcase those treasures that you love to see every day. Besides framing them, there are special cases to hold signed baseballs, for example.
Your home is your retreat from the hectic world we live in so don’t be afraid to add the treasures that bring you joy!
