Thursday the 24th will mark the 10th year that I have been back into my home after a river flowed through it for a month. We were ousted from our home June 23rd 2011 and moved back February 24th 2012.

I’ve told the story of the flood in words and in pictures here At Active Rain in the past so today I just want to focus on the celebration of ten years of resiliency and things being normal.

Having your house destroyed doesn’t sound like a good thing but a lot of good things came of it. My family and I learned a lot about people and how loving and giving they are. It was all worth it and that is why I will be celebrating this coming Thursday.

Hi Bob I so remember that year your home and many others in your area where seriously flooded out.  And I'm glad to hear you feel the good in all that happened and experienced the loving, kind people in the world that helped your family and others throughout the whole ordeal.  10 year celebration - bring it on!

The kindness and generosity were amazing Anna Banana Kruchten CRS, Phoenix Broker . 1/3 of the homes in Minot were flooded and those who were not flooded opened their doors to those who were. The City had immediately opened a shelter and I think they had less then 50 people use it out of approximately 10,000 people. Then there was all the help "mucking out" and all the donations of home furnishings as people started to move back. What a fantastic lesson to Tina and Timmothy at the ages of 9 and 11. It was also a great lesson to them as to what really matters in life.

The message was so timely to Tina and Timmothy Endre Barath, Jr. as to what is important in life as well as how to treat people (as they were treated).

There is no way to imagine it Brian England . Just think about the Cities infrastructure! Water treatment plants are usually located near or on the river... gone! Sewage systems under water... gone! Raw sewage had to be just dumped into the river, nothing else could be done. Yards underwater for a month.. nothing survived, all had to be replanted from scratch.

Good morning, Bob... I see pictures like that and all I can do is shake my head in astonishment. And just as you learned about how kind and generous people can be in circumstances like this, I tip my hat to you and your neighbors for your resilience in living through something like this.

Hi Bob- it's hard to imagine all that you and others went through after something like this. It sounds like you've made lemonade out of lemons and are choosing to see something positive out of this.

I would not want to repeat it for sure Grant Schneider . The funny thing is that it put me in fantastic shape (I even turned heads) and while looking my best in years I had my 1st heart attack.
