The Local Yolk in Manhattan Beach CaliforniaMy favorite breakfast place is in Manhattan Beach, some 90 miles north of Carlsbad. Not only is it my fave in Manhattan Beach but my favorite anywhere I think.

The Local Yolk in Manhattan Beach CaliforniaThe Local Yolk is on Highland in the heart of this charming, and expensive, beach town and has been feeding locals since 1984.

I first learned about it about 9 years ago when my daughter was at USC. We have visited many times over the years for breakfast, most recently this morning on the trip home from Los Angeles to Carlsbad.

If you are a resident in the area you undoubtedly know this place, but for folks further north or south, it may not be on your radar screen. Both The Local Yolk and Manhattan Beach should be on your list of places to visit in Southern California.

This is a no frills kid of place with huge omelets and a large menu of breakfast food and other stuff that is sure to please (they also serve lunch). Service is quick and folks are usually in and out in about 45 minutes - there are 3 or 4 tables outside on the sidewalk too, to enjoy the street scene and beach air.

It's loud, bustling and crowded (especially on weekends). They have terrific banana nuts muffins, and prices are pretty reasonable for the quantity you get. I recommend a beach walk afterward to work off the calories (just several blocks down a fairly steep hill to The Strand and the sand - SEE PHOTO ABOVE LEFT). The parking can be a bit challenging in the center of town - watch the restrictions since some meters are just 24 minutes and I understand they are sticklers for expired meters. It's worth it, though.

For anyone interested in the Manhattan Beach area, please contact my friend, Kaye Thomas. She knows the Manhattan Beach market from top to bottom and can help you either buy or sell. Be prepared to spend some money, though - Manhattan Beach is one of the more expensive communities in the Los Angeles area. But once you visit you will understand why.

6 Comments on Favorite Breakfast Place in Manhattan Beach, California

Jeff we too have a couple of outstanding places around here for breakfast, but I have to confess my FAVORITE is my wife's.  As good as some of the restaurants are, her's is better :) :)

I miss the beach and I LOVE to eat near the beach.  That salty air just opens the taste buds.  THe food looks yumalicious!

I want that omelet!!!  I love avacado in everything!  After viewing some of Kaye's listings and such around the Manhattan Beach area...it is a given that she knows her stuff ....and you are sweet to point that out!
