As the farms began to turn into residential communities, manufacturing took over and the rubber industry was primary with the evolution of the GoodYear Metallic Rubber Shoe Company into US Rubber, which evolved into Uniroyal.  With the decline of manufacturing, the town is primarily a residential community with easy access to New Haven and Bridgeport.
