This tutorial explains how to setup a domain name for your ActiveRain outside blog using GoDaddy for the registrant.  I know there are many other domain registration companies but GoDaddy is well known and used by many, which is why the tutorial is written using GoDaddy.

Login to GoDaddy.com and search for your desired domain name

 domain name search

Once you have found an available domain name you want - proceed through the GoDaddy purchase screens.

After purchase is complete go to your GoDaddy account page and choose the "Manage Domains" option (see left picture) then choose your registered domain from the manage domains screen.

You will be presented with the following screen after selecting your domain from the "Manage Domains" screen.  Choose the "Nameservers" option from this screen.  From the nameservers screen choose the custom nameserver option.

From the custom nameservers screen input the ActiveRain name servers ns1.agentspaces.com and ns2.agentspaces.com for the first 2 nameserver spots and click OK.

Now in your ActiveRain "Outside Blogs" settings make sure and enable "Use an existing domain name" section and input the domain name you registered.  Save your ActiveRain "Outside Blog" settings and within 72 hours or less your domain name should resolve to your outside blog.

*****NOTE***** When inputting the domain name in your ActiveRain blog settings do not include www. or http:// in front and make sure to check enabled.  The domain name should be entered without www. or http:// like the below screen shot.

Misty, very nice tutorial - Yep did all that I am now over 72 hours - but if you look at Jonathan's post about the name servers - there a some issues on the AR side so we all just need to be patient.  Some are working and some are not - we are all just standing in line :) Great reference!!

Thanks Misty, I guess my problem is with creating meta tags. Can you work me through the basics of creating meta tags, if you can? I would appreciate it.

Noticed some people were having trouble getting their domain name to resolve to their outside blog due to placing a www. in front of the domain name in the AR outside blog settings.  This post has been updated with the following...

*****NOTE***** When inputting the domain name in your ActiveRain blog settings do not include www. or http:// in front.  The domain name should be entered without www. or http:// like below screen shot.
