On February 17, 2022, National Association of Home Builders/Wells Fargo Housing Market Index (HMI) for newly built single family homes decreased one point to 82 points in February of 2021 from 83 points in January of 2022.
The HMI component charting buyer traffic dropped four points to 65 points, the HMI present sales conditions grew one point to 90 points, and the HMI sales expectations index down two points 80 points in February of 2022.
The three-month moving averages for regional HMI scores, Northeast higher three points to 76 points, Midwest lower one point to 73 points, South up one point to 86 points, the West gained one points to 89 points in February of 2022.
NAHB Chief Economist Robert Dietz, stated “Higher interest rates in 2022 will further reduce housing affordability even as demand remains solid due to a lack of resale inventory.”
