Advice To New Realtors

By
Services for Real Estate Pros with Ward County Notary Services 607851

I was thinking today, what one piece of advice would I give to a new realtor or someone about to become a new realtor. What was the one thing that carried me through, kept me in business and my family feed?

Fear no one!

As the Scales Of Justice and the Declaration of Independence declare all men are created equal.

That one thing is what made me successful. You can approach anybody.

You are new at the job, you don't have any experience, you may only have a high school diploma... it doesn't matter. When I reflect upon my real estate career (and back to the beginning of my sales career as far as the age of 8) I do not remember anyone being rude to me because I boldly introduced my self and my product to them.

That being said I may have been dismissed fairly promptly but never rudely and to the reverse of that I picked up business from contractors, builders, and developers.

Was I qualified to work with these people? They didn't know me from Adam and until I worked with any one of them I'd say I was not qualified BUT... they appreciated that I asked for the chance and they gave it to me.

Everyone is approachable in this business. Don't be afraid to knock on doors, walk onto construction sites, hand out your card and introduce yourself. This is the one thing that made me successful in real estate and in life.

Great advice, Bob... I was raised in an environment where you didn't really "speak" with people until you  were properly introduced to them. That is something I've not yet shed... it was too deeply ingrained.

I understand that Nina Hollander, Broker and respect it. Obviously you have done extremely well in the way that you work and I would assume that part of your success is that people are naturally drawn to you (I know I am as I grabble with that magnetic pull all the way over here in ND 😍).

I had unbelievable luck when I first became a Realtor, 40 years ago.  I chose the best office I could have imagined, and really didn't even know it at the time.  I walked in, and the 10 other agents there were all seasoned professionals.  And, all were willing to take me under their wings, and help me fly.  It was a Century 21 office.  My broker gave me a gold jacket.  I put it on and said, I will return tomorrow, and get a running start.  However, on the way home, I stopped at the grocery store where the check-out clerk said, "I didn't know you were in real estate."  My response, "Oh, you didn't."  She went on to say that she and her husband were looking to move up, and also sell their existing home.  That night, I listed their home, and within a few days we had put their new home in escrow.

That is really COOL Myrl Jeffcoat and I bet it helped embolden you. If it were me I probably would have left the gold jacket on until it needed dry cleaning.

I am not sure why but your response made me smile Michael Jacobs . Yes they do but not necessarily in something a Realtor sells.

Hi Bob- when I was in office staffing, I was always calling HR heads and heads of companies. It was not always easy but I came to realize that they're just people. If I got a polite "no thank you," that was ok with me. If they were rude, that was their problem.

That is how I feel as well Kathy Streib . As long as people are polite to me I will not think unfavorably towards them.

Congrats Bob for your continued success. Have no fear. It reminds me of the quote, "Never let them see you sweat". I believe it was a deodorant commercial, but it could equate to being fearless as well. :)
