Advice To New Realtors

Reblogger Ray Henson
Real Estate Agent with eXp Realty of California, Inc. (lic. #01878277) DRE# 00949880

This is great advice from, Bob "RealMan" Timm, for new agents.  It is the one thing that I struggled with for longer than I should have, fear.  Fear of hearing someone say no.  Fear of inadequacy in real estate. Fear of introducing myself as a new agent.  And so many more.  Bob puts things in perspective.  If you put yourself out there and introduce yourself and what you do, most people are respectful and appreciative, even if they do not need your services.  I actually have never had anyone less than respectful.  Get out there and mingle.  Do not be a secret agent!

I was thinking today, what one piece of advice would I give to a new realtor or someone about to become a new realtor. What was the one thing that carried me through, kept me in business and my family feed?

Fear no one!

As the Scales Of Justice and the Declaration of Independence declare all men are created equal.

That one thing is what made me successful. You can approach anybody.

You are new at the job, you don't have any experience, you may only have a high school diploma... it doesn't matter. When I reflect upon my real estate career (and back to the beginning of my sales career as far as the age of 8) I do not remember anyone being rude to me because I boldly introduced my self and my product to them.

That being said I may have been dismissed fairly promptly but never rudely and to the reverse of that I picked up business from contractors, builders, and developers.

Was I qualified to work with these people? They didn't know me from Adam and until I worked with any one of them I'd say I was not qualified BUT... they appreciated that I asked for the chance and they gave it to me.

Everyone is approachable in this business. Don't be afraid to knock on doors, walk onto construction sites, hand out your card and introduce yourself. This is the one thing that made me successful in real estate and in life.

Raymond Henson, eXp Realty my attitude has always been, know matter how little I know about something, the odds are I know more about it than the person I am talking to.  So I might as well act accordingly.  😁

Ray, the fear of rejection is a tough one, and I still have issues with that too.  Don't think it goes away, or at least it doesn't for me.

Good morning, George Souto.  You are 100% correct and it took me some time before I realized that at the beginning of my career.

Hi Joan Cox.  You would think we would get over the fear in our business, but it still stings when I lose.  A couple weeks ago, I went to a listing presentation and thought everything went just about a well as possible.  I came in second place and, as I wrote in one of my blogs, Second Place is Last Place in Real Estate.
