Spring Break is upon us. The keyword here is, "BREAK". Have you ever noticed that when you have run your engine dry, you eventually crash and burn with an illness, an emotional outburst, or you simply shut down?
To avoid these "crashes", it is vital that you recognize the much-needed times of rest and relaxation. And, you need these breaks on a daily basis too! Most of us simply push through our daily routine with very little thought about placing intentional break times into them.
Here is a great reminder to help you remember to stop and smell the roses:
B - Be still! Times of stillness are essential to your overall health and wellness. While great sleep is super important, simple times of rest and relaxation are also needed. Being still can be as simple as taking a 10-minute power nap, an escape with a book, a time of prayer, sitting outside in nature.
R - REST! Allow your body and mind to really rest. This means not putting any pressure on yourself to do anything other than to simply, “be”. Daydream and indulge in some true quiet time.
E - EASY! Be easy on yourself. Give yourself permission to do nothing from time to time. I have learned to just say, “it can wait”! Understanding when to allow yourself to have grace can provide you with the gift of easing up and taking it easy.
A - Adaptability. Knowing when to pivot is critical when it comes to taking breaks. When your body is telling you to rest, being able to adapt is key. Be creative to find ways to put off an important task at a later time. Use your time wisely and intentionally. Once you have given yourself a break, re-think what must be done and use the new energy to get those unchecked items off of your list. Adapt and re-direct.
K - KNOW yourself. When you know the signs of exertion, stress, and being drained, you can know it is time to take a break. Stay in tune with your body, your emotions, and your energy level. And remember, when you identify a low battery, take action and slow down.
It's ok to take a break today! Go for it and learn to say, "yes" to times of rest. Enjoy and re-charge!
