National Vietnam War Veterans Day is March 29
If you are privileged to know someone who served during the Vietnam War, I hope you’ll take this day to thank them for their service.
The Vietnam War Veterans Recognition Act of 2017 is bi-partisan (don’t you love that word) legislation that was introduced by Senators Pat Toomey and Joe Donnelly on February of 20 17 and signed by President Donald J. Trump on March 28, 2017.
Who is a Vietnam War Veteran?
They are anyone who was on active duty in the United States Armed Forces from November 1, 1955, through May 15, 1975. There is no distinction made between those who served “in-country, in-theatre, or elsewhere during this period.
While Larry was not in-country, he was in the Air Force (F-4 pilot) during that time. Our friend, Vic, was part of the Lost Platoon in May of 1967 in Vietnam. One of my cousins served in Vietnam and saw things that no one should ever have to see. Many served and did not return. They left behind fathers and mothers, children and wives, friends, and high school classmates. They did not get to live and experience what you and I have
Unlike other wars, our veterans did not return home to parades and cheering. They were called to duty to fight a war that no one wanted. And unfortunately, people being people, some took their disdain for the war out on our veterans.

So on this particular day, please reach out to someone you know who served during this period and thank them. If they are willing, ask them about their experiences and reflections on the war. Do not press.
As always, my heartfelt gratitude goes out to anyone who is and has served in our Armed Forces. However on this day, in particular, I thank all of the Vietnam Vets.
