Home Staging Tip…What to Remove From a Vacant Home
What, you ask? If the house is vacant, what’s left to remove???
Not all homes need furniture and furnishings in them to sell. Yes, it would be nice but not always possible. Vacant homes can have their advantages in that they allow the buyer to see ALL of the space.
However, in any staging project, the key is to remove anything that would detract or distract from the buyer seeing the property in its best light.
The same holds true for a home that has been left vacant.
What You Should Remove From a Vacant Home…
~Anything that’s not clean
Remove the dirt from ceiling fans, baseboards, the sink, dishwasher, windows, thresholds, and shelves
~Hangers in closets
You want buyers to see the space in the closet, not the few hangers left there for no purpose
~Cable and phone cords crawling out of the wall
~Worn or stained carpet
Look at replacing worn and stained carpeting as maximizing the investment you have in your house.
~Heavy, dated window coverings
We see this so many times in vacant homes. It can make the property appear outdated and it can keep much-needed light from showing off your property.
~Dead bugs and spider webs that have taken up residence
What this is telling your potential buyer is that the house has been there for a while and no one is caring for the property.
~Any “I don’t want this anymore” furniture or accessories
Again…a distraction from the buyer looking at the potential of the property
~Leftovers
Whether it’s in the dishwasher, fridge, pantry, or drawers…remove it.
~Dead and overgrown landscaping
I know this is outside but it does make a difference. Your buyers are making up their minds as they approach your property.
Vacant homes do sell but why make it any harder than it has to be?
