Your property's curb appeal says a lot about its value and how interested prospective buyers would be in making a purchase.  Although there are plenty of trends that cycle in and out of popularity, 2022 is coming through with trends that are going to last for years.

These are the top home landscaping trends for 2022 and why they're holding the attention of so many homeowners.

Outdoor Kitchens

Kitchens are a magical space where we can transform ingredients into a delicious meal and enjoy spending time with our family and loved ones.  Why trap that into an only-indoor space?  Outdoor kitchens are a huge trend that's growing more and more popular by the day.

To create this, you'll need a grill, counter, sink, and mini-fridge at the least.  You can add to this with a bar,

Drainage for Water

Almost fifteen percent of properties in the USA are at risk of flooding within the next ten years.  Although you can’t physically change where your home is unless you sell it, you can make changes to your landscaping that will help your property handle water a lot better.

One of the main ways to do this is to look into landscape drainage systems.  These systems help run water away from your home and instead divert it to a lower and safer area that can handle it more.

Another option some are adding is a rain garden.  This garden works with landscape drainage and helps your soil absorb more water by working with its root structures.  They also keep your soil intact even when it's saturated, so you don't need to deal with land slippage.

Natural and Native

A large trend in 2022 for many homeowners is to ditch the water and struggle with grass.  The grass most Americans have on their lawn isn't a species that's native to this continent.  Homeowners following a natural approach are replacing classic green grass with local and native plants that have always lived in their area.

These plants are better built to handle the weather and its fluctuations, don't need excessive water and can look gorgeous year-round.  This can keep your lawn looking great even if you're in a drought: because these plants will be prepared for it.

Comfortable Space for Lounging

As a reaction to how long many people were stuck in apartments and smaller homes during 2020 and 2021, many homeowners are doing everything they can to create outdoor spaces where they can lounge and enjoy taking in the sunlight.  By using things like concrete patio pavers, you can create a stable space for furniture.

Consider adding a table, chairs, and lounging seats to make the perfect exterior.  This is especially great for entertaining if you want to invite friends and loved ones over.

Pollinator Friendly Gardens

Pollinators have been taking a big hit in recent years, and as their populations dwindle, it's important that we do what we can to help build them back.  Consider what pollinators are in your area, and look at what local and native plants they pollinate and live off of the best.

You don’t have to create a single patch for this!  Instead, consider spacing it out all over your lawn in flower beds and other spaces that will be inviting to them.  Avoid including pollinator plants right next to entrances and exits so that you don’t disturb them as you pass through.

Updated Sidewalks and Driveway

If you have cracks or stains on your driveway and sidewalks, you're not alone.  Unfortunately, these can cause safety hazards for anyone who wants to visit or for your vehicles as you drive up.  Repair any cracks, or consider replacing your driveway entirely.

As you complete this update, look into driveway drainage solutions that can help divert even more water away from your property.  Cracks in sidewalks and driveways are usually because of a freeze and thaw cycle that happens when water gets trapped within it.

By updating these surfaces and guiding water away from them, you give your sidewalks and driveway the best chance to succeed.

Outdoor Lighting

Outdoor lighting has been incredibly popular so far in 2022!  Having lights aimed at your home at night shows off how hard you work on your lawn care and adds an extra security feature.  Thieves and criminals that might try to break in at night are far less willing to approach a property if it's well lit.  This means these lights can scare off possible criminals, all while ensuring anyone who drives by can admire how much work and time you put into the exterior of your property.  It's a win-win!

Your Property Should be Gorgeous Inside and Out

Whether this is your first home, or you've owned it for years and are ready for something fresh: consider updating your home's exterior this summer.  Not only will it make your property feel brand new, but you'll also enjoy the added chance to spend more time outside.
